Heaven is a Place on Earth: 2nd Annual LA Cookie Con and Sweets Show

12 Dec, 2015  |  by Linda Dianne

While Los Angeles may be known to most non-Angelinos as a low-fat, no-fat, vegan, green juice paradise, the City of Angels also knows a pâte sucrée from a pâte à choux. And while we tend to keep our love of pastries on the down low, we come together once a year to celebrate all things sweet at the Los Angeles Cookie Con and Sweets Show. Returning for its second year on February 6 & 7 2016, the West Coast’s largest…

Before we get started, I want to take a second to thank each of you that read these posts every other week. This will be my last one before we end FGFS and I’m pretty bummed. Having this community has meant so much to me and has seriously changed the woman I’ve become over the last three years. I hope that in the future I can find a little corner of the internet to continue making recipes and rekindle the…

Cottage Dreaming with Desmond and Beatrice and Giftagram

6 Jun, 2015  |  by rochellelatinsky

If you’re like me you live for long weekends in the summer. Often times, I will use up what little vacation days I have left at work to stretch out those lovely long weekends.  Unfortunately, Canada Day falls smack dab in the middle of a work week this time and it’s hard for me to escape to the campfire of my dreams. Even though my cottage weekend dreams have been quashed by calendar woes, I can still reminisce and enjoy…

Christina Tosi’s ‘Milk Bar Life’

5 May, 2015  |  by Gwyneth Dunsford

The new cookbook Milk Bar Life is an insider’s look into life at hip New York City bakery Momofuku Milk Bar. As a sister bakery to David Chang’s wildly successful Momofuku restaurants, Milk Bar has gained a devoted following for its trademark creations, Compost Cookies, Crack Pie and Cereal Milk. Now, Momufuku Milk Bar’s founder and chef Christina Tosi is sharing more of her favourite recipes. Unlike Tosi’s first cookbook, Milk Bar Life takes a refreshingly lowbrow approach. Recipe after…

Guilt-Free Sweet Tooth: Kelly\'s Bake Shoppe

10 Oct, 2014  |  by Carly Mcleod

In the heart of downtown Burlington, there’s some vegan goodness that you need to visit immediately. Seriously, get in your car now, and go. You will not believe the tasty treats that await you at Kelly’s Bake Shoppe. Kelly’s Bake Shoppe was started by mother and daughter team Kelly Childs and Erinn Weatherbie in 2012, because they were exhausted with the healthy “goodies” available. They weren’t tasty at all, and Kelly and Erinn wanted something delicious and guilt-free, made with healthy ingredients. Organic,…

Fatty Cakes, Fatty Cakes, NYC.

2 Feb, 2014  |  by Guest Post

As you might know, I am a sucker for a really good dessert, and apart from doughnuts my other love is cookies. When I was in Brooklyn checking out the City Reliquary Museum they were selling local sweets and I got to try a Fattycakes cookie. Let me tell you that it was hands down the best cookie I have ever had in my whole life. I’m a sucker for the “Chipwich”, not exactly the ice cream sandwich, but a…

Dundas Park Kitchen Bringing Comfort Food Home

8 Aug, 2013  |  by Ama Scriver

Over the past few months, a stretch of new restaurants have opened along Dundas West that have been offering healthy, grab and go choices.  One such place is the Dundas Park Kitchen, which nestled right beside the Belljar Cafe. I first came into contact with owners Alex Tso and Melanie Harris after they offered up an old espresso machine (on Facebook) from the old Portuguese restaurant they were refurbishing to make their own.  My partner ended up obtaining the machine…
